Premise
The show revolves around a series of skits parodying American culture and politics, performed by a large and varying cast of repertory and newer cast members. It was created and produced by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol. The show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title of NBC's Saturday Night.
2012
It was announced during the "Jonah Hill/The Shins" episode on March 10, 2012 that One Direction would be the musical guest April 7, 2012 with Sofia Vergara as host.
One Direction performed "What Makes You Beautiful" and "One Thing" during their time on the show.
They also appeared in the Fred Armisen led sketch of a Dominican talk show, 'The Manuel Ortiz Show'. They portrayed Sofia Vergara's children, Carlito (Harry), Pepito (Louis), Martito (Liam), Miguelito (Zayn) and Dick (Niall).
2014
One Direction preformed "Night Changes" and "Ready to Run".
In addition to the two performances, One Direction also dropped by Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong's Girlfriends Talk Show. They portrayed a high school dance team in the sketch, with 1D's Niall Horan delivering one of the worst accents in SNL history.
